Play Up Pompey! - Pre-Season - Issue #1 9/23/2014 4:35:00 AM

Tough times have fallen on Portsmouth FC. Over the span of 4 years, the club has gone from the Premier League to League 2.

For FIFA 15, I am going to attempt to get Pompey back to the Premiership and bring European football back to Fratton Park! This will take some time, but I'm looking forward to it.

The Portsmouth board has set the following goals for the team this year:

  • Win the League 2 title
  • Reach the round of 32 in the domestic cups

Strengthening the Squad

The first task I had after taking over Pompey was to sign a striker. A servicable striker can dominate the lower leagues in England, so this was my first priority. Unfortunately, Portsmouth don't have much income nowadays, so our scouting team will be heavily relied upon. Within a few days of starting the job, we managed to find the striker that will lead us to League 1 (and beyond!). 27-year old Australian Nikita Rukavytsya is the man that came to the South coast from FSV Mainz in Germany. For the low price of £425,000, our striker problems have (hopefully) been fixed.

After securing the signature of a striker, it was time to add depth, and the easiest (and cheapest) way to do that is to loan players. So we exercised our "special relationship" with Tottenham Hotspur and brought in two of their youth players, Harry Winks (CM) and Dominic Ball (CB).

The Pre-Season

Our pre-season schedule wasn't filled with glamorus opponents, but it provided the squad some much-needed match time together to become comfortable with my new 4-4-2 formation and tactics. Rukavytsya totaled 4 goals in the 3 warmup matches, giving the Pompey faithful some hope that this may the season that turns around the club.

  • Portsmouth 3 - 3 Incheon United
  • Portsmouth 1 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday
  • Portsmouth 2 - 1 Houston Dynamo

The next issue will come after the January transfer window has closed (hopefully with video highlights!).
