Author Dumping on the PK

When I used to play in the XBox Leagues we used to have a rule about dumping on the PK unless down 2 or more, or trailing in the 3rd period. Is that rule out the window in this league or not? I'd prefer it to be in, as it really enforces an actual penalty for committing one.

i don't generally like to put rules in place like that - it's a video game, so guys are going to resort to what comes natural to them. if a guy is always going on the offensive and trying the same move over & over again to score on a PK, i can address it. i know myself, there are often times where a lane is open for a breakout on a PK. my guys get tired and suffer because of it. but i have to take that chance. ;)

we'll continue to monitor situations like these.

Oh well, if the rule isn't in, I'll make sure to take advantage of it. I had like 26 PIMs in two games to start the season, and dumped on the PK on each one. I'll just keep the press up since we're not going to enforce any sim type rules.

What are you trying to say?  That if I get a penalty, I can't dump it in the other end?  That seems like a silly rule.

If you get 26 penalty minutes, then go ahead and dump it...why not?  How is that not "sim"?  Unless I'm missing  your point.

i think he's saying that he took 26 minutes in penalties and dumped it instead of taking some chances on scoring... the one thing i'd be cautious of is running up the score. that's a rule that is enforced. if you're up 4-0 and you're putting the pedal to the metal still, that won't be tolerated.

PK goals exist in the NHL. icing the puck 80% of the time regardless of the score and trying a breakout when the PP line may be gassed or when they've made a bad pinch, is totally warranted. if you're grabbing the puck and trying to skate out of your zone, up the middle, that's a chance you're taking. i find that this year's game really makes you pay for mistakes when you make them.

i think it's clear by your 4-0 and 4-1 wins that you won pretty handily even though you were dumping it out of yoru zone on the PK. i, on the other hand, struggled to get any offence going, so scoring a shorty would have definitely helped me build some momentum.

I think it's better to leave gameplay to develop naturally, letting people "coach"/(play) how they want insofar as that's concerned. I know I push hard on the PK and move it up on the breakout as much as possible, because it's both a way to waste PP time for my opponent and because I'd rather get as many shots on goal as possible... a 1% chance for the goalie to fumble a dump on net is enough for me to take a weak floating wrister from the point. I get burned sometimes, but that's what happens sometimes and I'm completely okay with that. As long as we're all on the same page, though, I'm alright with pretty much anything... as long as there's some leeway to get used to rule changes.

So whats the issue,  you won both games your mad cause you wanted to run up the score instead of dumping. Lame

People are missing the point. It's not a penalty if you can just attack and put a puck in the net. Unlike the NHL there is hardly a difference playing with 4 men as opposed to playing with 5. In older leagues here we used to enforce that you had to dump the puck on the PK unless you stole a puck/broke up a play, or were trailing in the third.
